PTC includes elements of paternity coaching but also provides a more comprehensive approach, supporting parents from pregnancy through to their return to work, with guidance tailored to their specific circumstances.


What Does Parental Transition Coaching Involve?
Whether it’s for new fathers or those growing their families, the challenges of balancing a professional career with parenthood are universal. Each individual’s experience is unique, but common themes addressed include:
- Navigating changes in identity.
- Managing time and responsibilities.

P&P Parental Transition Coaching Programme Structure
We believe that a structured coaching programme makes the transition smoother for parents. Our approach includes:
- Session 1 – Expectancy at Work:
This session takes place before parental leave begins and focuses on preparing the individual for the upcoming leave period. - Session 2 – Preparing for the Return to Work:
During leave, new parents are encouraged to reconnect with work when they feel ready. This session helps them process any feelings about returning and prepares them both emotionally and practically. - Sessions 3 & 4 – Returning to Work:
These sessions usually occur during the first three months after the parent returns to work. They provide support through reintegration, boosting confidence, and helping with any concerns as they transition back into their professional role.
Equipping managers to support team members
A crucial part of PTC is ensuring that managers are equipped to support their team members during parental transitions. We recommend at least two coaching sessions with managers, where they can reflect on how to create a more family-friendly team culture and become more understanding and supportive leaders.
