Fertility matters at work – a manager’s guide

Fertility matters at work – a manager’s guide

Fertility struggles are more common in the workplace than many realise, with as many as 1 in 7 individuals needing assistance to build their family. Yet, a recent survey by Fertility Matters at Work found that nearly 70% of employees going through fertility issues had no workplace policy to support them, and only 1.7% of existing policies met their needs. Alarmingly, 36% of employees facing fertility challenges have considered leaving their jobs. This webinar is designed for HR professionals and line managers to help create a more supportive environment for employees navigating fertility struggles, which can significantly impact engagement, retention, and overall wellbeing at work.

In this 1-hour session, we will explore why fertility matters in the workplace, share personal insights and research on the emotional, financial, and social toll it takes, and address the reasons why many employees are reluctant to disclose their situation. Managers will gain practical tools to offer support through effective policy development, empathetic conversations, and a deeper understanding of the employment legislation that applies. By raising awareness and normalising these discussions, your workplace can become a more compassionate and supportive environment for those facing fertility challenges.

As a manager of someone who has faced fertility struggles, I was keen to attend this to see how I can better support. I found it helpful to understand what my team member had been through so I could really empathise. I now feel more equipped to have a conversation about fertility.
