8 Reasons Organisations Offer Parental Transition Coaching

reasons organisations offer parental transition coaching

Parental transition coaching is offered in many organisations as employers are increasingly recognising the importance of caring for their employees who are going through the period of expectancy, maternity leave, shared parental leave or adoption.

You might be passionate about supporting expectant and new parents at work and want to make a real difference to parents’ career progression and future potential. From an organisational perspective, parental transition coaching is integral to D&I drivers and targets, including attraction, retention, supporting the talent pipeline; as well as supporting the health and wellbeing agenda.

8 Reasons Organisations Offer Parental Transition Coaching

Coaching supports employees to cope with a variety of challenges such as;

  1. Exiting from the business to go on parental leave to include handover, performance management and stakeholder communications
  2. Thinking ahead to their period of parental leave and sharing any concerns, hopes and fears.
  3. Recognising and supporting strong emotions associated with the return to work eg. separation anxiety, guilt, change of personal identity
  4. Reintegration plans including: Identifying priorities and objectives, conducting a skills and strengths audit, visibility and connecting with key stakeholders
  5. Finding the right balance; working flexibly; reintegrating and rebuilding relationships at work
  6. Any concerns and challenges – both at home and at work eg. childcare, relationship with manager, setting boundaries regarding work schedules
  7. Reflecting on the positive foundations of the parenting experience and the leave from work eg. transferable skills, core values, identifying a work/life balance
  8. Supporting longer term career development including self-expectations, visibility within the business and mentoring opportunities
